AMIT Treatment Method

AMIT is the Advanced Muscle Integration Technique. The AMIT method is a systematic treatment of joint and muscle conditions experienced by highly active people. The technique is used in sports environments and has made it’s way mainstream due in large part to the amazing results.

In order to understand further, let’s take a look at the human body. The human body is perfectly designed to produce the exact experience we get. That is, our body is designed to function and work properly in an athletic or competitive environment. Pain or dysfunction in the human body is a direct result of imbalances or over use injuries to the specific muscle group or groups. The developers of the AMIT system discovered the primary cause of chronic joint pain and muscle pain is due to inhibited muscles due to overuse or injury. Although the pain of the injury goes away over time, the functional imbalance remains and in turn these functional imbalances eventually lead to chronic pain. By defining these imbalances and correcting them using the AMIT therapies, healing and rehabilitation can take place rapidly without the need for drugs or surgery.

The AMIT method is great for anyone who has imbalances or is repetitively putting their body through high intensity training demand. The method can be performed on the entire body, in fact our very own Dr. Dewar is renowned with his work with chronic ankle sprains and pains using the AMIT method.

What to Expect At Your Appointment

  1. An Assessment: Dr. Dewar is specially trained to test different muscles for misfiring and will test upwards of 30 of the most common injury prone muscles related to the injury or pain being described. The assessment will tell us what muscles are firing and which ones have shut down, the imbalance.
  2. Treatment Strategy: After the assessment the imbalance or non firing muscle groups will be targeted for therapy. This will include a myriad of verbal commands and movements from the doctor in an attempt to wake up or reactivate the shut down muscles. Once the muscles or imbalances are firing again the doctor will provide a treatment plan that may include additional appointments of AMIT method if condition persist.
  3. Targeted Rehabilitation: For chronic or more severe imbalances it may be necessary to continue therapy in the form of massage therapy, manual therapy, acupressure, or reflexology.

Kinesiology Taping with Rocktape

We are proud to be an exclusive Rocktape retailer. Rocktape is a brand of kinesiology tape that when applied correctly will lift the skin ever so slightly creating a space between the muscle and dermis layers. This space aids in reduction of swelling on injured areas and prevents swelling by aiding in lymphatic drainage and increasing blood flow. Additionally, taping of the muscles and joints can add a layer of protection against sprains and strains.

Rocktape can be used on a variety of muscle groups and joints, some of the most common are ankles, shoulders and knees. As a general rule it is a good idea to use tape on the areas prone to injury in your sport or subject to overuse. At our office, we have even used Rocktape on pregnant women’s bellies to aid in support and blood flow!

At Performance Advantage we use Rocktape and their taping methods as part of our treatment options. Our patients will often continue receiving taping services for their trouble areas even after chronic issues have been treated. If you are interested in taping techniques, purchasing tape, or getting taped by one of our experts, please contact the office today!
